Just a Post

Things I WILL teach my son (not in any specific order):
1- TO SAY SORRY!! It is one of my pet peeves when people are mean or do something wrong and won't apologize. Unfortunately, my husband wasn't taught this.
2-To say please and thank you. It seems like very few people ever use these words anymore. Anyone else notice?
3- To cough/sneeze into his shirt or elbow. I am kind of a germaphobe so when I see people sneeze into their hands or cough without covering their mouth (or even use their hand to cover their mouth) it makes me ill. If you use your hand, you touch stuff and spread your germsl. If you don't cover your mouth you force people to inhale your germs. EW!
4- To wash his hands and put the toilet seat down after he goes potty. I've seen so many people walk out of the restroom without washing their hands. Come on, seriously people? Ever heard of Rotavirus or Hepatitus? Ikkk! I've caught some of my guys at work not washing their hands. I make them go back and wash them with me there! lol I'm terrible I know.
5- Pick up after himself. I'm sure this will be a difficult one but he's going to learn it. Again, this is something his father never learned. Trying to teach him but its hard to teach an old dog new tricks. ;0)
6- Money does not grow on trees. If he wants something, he's going to have to earn it.
7- School is important at every grade. I screwed up most of my elementary- high school years and I don't want him to be like me. I wish I would have tried harder and gotten better grades.
8- Being outside is so much more fun than watching tv or playing video games. Brandon and I both don't watch much tv and don't have any cable or regular chanels so I think this will be kind of easy.
9- Mommy and Daddy will love him no matter what he does and he can come to us for everything. I want him to feel comfortable telling us things even tho we may not approve sometimes.
10- I want to teach him how to cook. I enjoy cooking but it is always nice when Brandon takes a turn every once in a while! His future wife will appreciate it!

On to a different subject. My day started out on a bad foot but as the day has progressed its been quite interesting! My guys and I just spent 20 minutes trying to catch a bird that flew in to a lady's office. We aren't quite sure how it got in cause none of the windows in the building open. I was laughing my butt off watching them try to catch it! I was trying to throw my jacket on it, we tried getting it into a bag, catching it with our hands, and finally we got it with a box! I am not a huge fan of birds. They scare me but I felt bad for the poor thing. It was so beat by the time we caught it. I think it just basically decided to give up. Two of my guys took it outside so I hope the little thing lives. It was a pretty bird. What an exciting 20 minutes! Kinda made my day! I will miss this place. We have fun here some days!

What a great list. These are almost exactly my very same top ten things to teach my children! You are so right about people not teaching their children manners - please, thank you, etc. My dad basically beat it into our brains when we were little, and I still can't NOT say it, even if it's totally unnecessary. I think it's so important! My husband is also lacking some of those basic ideals, and it is difficult to be married to someone who wasn't taught those kinds of things. You are definitely on the right track with Sawyer!!

you are right! Noone says sorry anymore. It is so important! Especially to the one receiving it. I don't think many of the family says it Jeremy doesn't either. What is wrong with them?

You never know how far the things you teach your kids will go. Right!?!? Good luck.
